The Fisherman's Studio

The Fisherman's Studio was first conceived back in 1975, as part of a training, servicing, design and manufacturing operation based in Eastern England.

The concept then was to develop training films and cooperate in television programs about fishing, and the Great Outdoors. It also created special events and demonstrations, as well as briefing government agencies about the needs and plight of fishermen, commercial and sport.

In the 1980's the operation was sold, and the Fisherman's Studio concept was shelved in the Archives.

In 2008 the concept was again activated, this time to develop multimedia, marketing and training materials for the US and global audience. With so many serious issues facing the commercial and leisure fisherman there is a desperate need to develop the best visual images of the Fisherman, his equipment and his ability to be a successful partner in conserving and improving the dwindling marine resources.

The TV Studio

In 2003 we moved Chef's Studio out of the National Press Building in the center of Washington, DC to the shores of the Chesapeake Bay.

The theme of "From Bait to Plate" was a perfect match for the Chesapeake Bay.

In 2008 we decided to share these resources to the relaunched Fisherman's Studio for developing media and television programming for a mass audience.

High School Fishing

A new curriculum is being introduced, or discussed at hundreds of High Schools and Colleges across the United States, Fishing.

For a generation that believes in Wii and endless video games, text messaging and only sees the outdoors in a computer screen the challenges and learning experiences of fishing are being discovered. The fact that they have been known for tens of thousands of years, and once Father and Son fishing trips were the norm speaks volumes about our social decline.

The Fisherman's Studio is looking into the best curriculum and the many layers of learning and competition.

The Chesapeake Bay

As an indictment on greed, and lack of understanding of our ecosystems the Chesapeake Bay was declared a Marine Disaster again, this time for the Blue Crab population.

The tasty once abundant crabs have all but disappeared in many areas of the Bay, following the fish and Oyster beds.

Now is the time to start bringing the next generations into the loop, and before we totally destroy the marine life on the planet have them work towards halting the catostrophic collapse of many ecosystems.

Understanding fishing is understanding our relationship with that ecosystem. Every community has a water area where fish can survive, and schools can bring classes. Every State has Fishing Tournaments and before we destroy the major fishing areas, such as the Chesapeake Bay maybe we can develop National Fishing Leagues with the same funding that the other sports leagues have. The by producct would be salvation of our marine areas, for they would be too valuable to destroy through neglect!

Designing for Fishing

For over twenty years Alan Simpson was one of Europe's leading designers of safety systems and clothing for the European marketplace. He became a leading figure in the politics of fishing, back in the 1970's.

For many years he taught a few thousand Aircrew, Mariners and Oilmen about staying alive, for the RAF, at Europe's first Survival School, and at the Maritime College in Lowestoft, Eastern England. This is after years flying both reconnaissance and Search and Rescue missions around the Atlantic.

In 2008 he decided to again carry on the fight for the fisherman, this time a veteran political journalist and broadcaster. The ideal person to find out the real scenarios that affect fishermen, their sport or jobs.
